The First General Assembly of Starship Congress

Icarus Interstellar is a technical research organization devoted to interstellar flight. While our focus is primarily on science and engineering, we believe such an endeavor is enriched through the amicable collaboration of scientists, artists and scholars from the entire human community, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender or philosophical outlook.
The purpose of our long-term effort is the exploration of the universe—of profound value to humankind and central to the education and enrichment of future generations. Through these scientific discoveries we hope that people of all philosophies and interests may take the opportunity to study the placement of their views in the context of human interplanetary and interstellar exploration.
To facilitate constructive dialogue, intellectual discourse and the articulation of shared personal experience, we recognize the need for global inclusion and are thus holding the First General Assembly of Starship Congress. Representing this assembly will be a range of interstellar-focused organizations, who are coming together to share ideas, strategies, opinions and information – with the aim of finding common consensus and strategic alignment of our shared vision – to reach for the stars. Our vision is to hold Starship Congress biennially so as to encourage continued dialogue within our community.
Delegates have been confirmed from the following organizations (in alphabetical order):
The Global Starship Alliance
The Institute for Interstellar Studies
The Tau Zero Foundation
The Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop
We have also sent invitations to Space Gambit and the One Hundred Year Starship but have not received confirmation of their attendance.
Nine discussion points (three for day one, two and three respectively) are to be debated at this year’s Starship Congress 2013 meeting in Dallas. Each representative will form their own position on each question which must be delivered within three minutes. We have also invited submission of up to 1,000 words per response which will be published in a special edition of the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society.
Soon we’ll be announcing the selection for the first Secretary General of Starship Congress.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Dallas!
